The Environmental Charter : Cannes Mandelieu Airport

EDITORIAL

Nice Côte d’Azur and Cannes Mandelieu airports are complementary tools essential for the development and support of the Alpes-Maritimes economy. The government and the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry have always sought to equip our enclosed region with successful airport hubs which “open onto a wider sky”.

In the same way as the economy, environment and quality of life represent essential factors for the attractiveness of our region and the well-being of its customers and partners. The development of Cannes-Mandelieu must now include controlling the pollution which it generates for residents. This takes place through a serious, calm and constructive dialogue with these residents.

In a voluntary approach, the Government, the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, residents associations and the local authorities concerned have jointly developed an Environmental Charter, a genuine sum of practical actions where the objective is to formalise a certain number of commitments such as:

• Banning airport activity at night.
• Limiting the number of movements.
• Not lengthening the runways beyond the airport’s current boundaries.
• Through an independent and recognised survey body conducting a periodic survey of residents’ satisfaction.
• Opening an information area dedicated to residents.

Together, we are making sure that we reconcile technological, economical and environmental changes.
