FLIGHT SAFETY

Cannes-Mandelieu airport is the centre for a very busy and highly seasonal business for light aircraft, helicopters and business aviation. Visual vigilance is always necessary in the CTR.

The airport is located in the bay of Cannes and is surrounded by quite high reliefs, particularly to the north and west.

The airport is comprised of a main runway QFU 172°/352°, and a secondary runway QFU 044°/224°.

Due to the presence of sea breezes, QFU 172° is used most :

Rate of runway use:

QFU 172°

QFU 352°

QFU 044°/224°

Rare

Runway 17/35: displaced threshold (DTHR), check your available operating distance. PAPI slopes: 7%.

Runway 04/22: used when there is a strong westerly wind (QFU 224°). Considering its short length, pilots must check their operational landing capabilities and if necessary, plan a diversion.

Maximum speed in CTR: 160 kts.

Reverse thrust should not be used beyond idle power, except in case of safety or operational requirements.

Suddenly unsettled weather conditions in case of stratus getting in from the sea.

Take off : The tracks come under the Nice IFR approach procedures. As a result, observance of the take off altitude clearance (2000 feet) is imperative.
