NOISE ABATMENT
|
In order to limit noise pollution related to aircraft using Cannes-Mandelieu Airport, pilots are requested to observe the noise reduction procedures described in AIP France (AD2 LFMD ENV1 and ENV2 or Jeppesen LFMD).
The successful implementation of these procedures is monitored by airport authorities and warnings can be given to pilots.
1 VPT RWY 17 :
QFU 173° is preferred. It is used in 80% of cases. As all approaches are coming from the south, landing on runway 17 requires that pilots conduct an indirect approach from the East of the airfield (VPT) resulting in overflying of mountainous and urban areas. In order to limit noise impact, pilots are requested :
- IAS 160 kts or minimum IAS in clean configuration ;
- Follow as close as possible the nominal track of VPT RWY 17 (refer to AD2 LFMN IAC 03 or Jeppesen LFMD 19-10), via LUXUS and PIBON (see coordinates below) ;
- Maintain 1800 feet until PIBON ;
- Keep clean configuration until PIBON ;
- Start descent after PIBON to intercept runway axis and PAPI slope at 1500 AMSL ;
- Do not fly beyond motorway Cannes-Grasse.
Track can be manually coded in airborne data bases with following coordinates :
LUXUS (fly by) :43° 32’ 56” N
006° 59’ 31” E |
PIBON (fly over)
43° 35’ 55” N
006° 58’ 59” E |
DTHR 17 :
43° 33’ 12.05” N
006° 56’ 59.64” E |
2 Visual approach :
Visual approach clearances are given only from an offshore position. In order to limit the noise impact, pilots are requested (in a similar way to the VPT RWY 17 procedure above) :
- IAS 160 kt or minimum IAS in clean configuration;
- Maintain 2000 AMSL, then:
RWY 17:
- Go round “Iles de Lérins” by the South and West ;
- Join LUXUS (500 m East “Rochers de la Bocca” - see coordinates above) ;
- Join PIBON (1 km West of “Vieux village de Mougins” - see coordinates above), maintain 1800 AMSL and avoid built-up areas depicted on the chart IAC AD2 LFMD ENV 01 or Jeppesen LFMD 19-11 ;
- Keep clean configuration until PIBON ;
- Start descent after PIBON to intercept runway axis and PAPI slope at 1500 AMSL ;
- Do not fly beyond motorway Cannes-Grasse.
RWY 35:
- Proceed to the final approach 35.
Weather conditions for Visual approach : refer to IAC AD2 LFMD ENV 01 or JeppesenLFMD 19-11.

Pilots are especially requested to avoid overflying build-up areas appearing in blue circles.
Keep clean configuration until PIBON.

Reverse thrust :
On landing, reverse thrust and propeller reverse pitch should not be used beyond idle power other than for safety requirements.
To vacate runway:
Use of TWY, preferred at the end of the runway:
- RWY 17, TWY D,
- RWY 35, TWY A1 or A2.
No APU, use ground power units (GPU) or electrical converser.
Use of “BLEED ON” must be as short as possible.
Initial climb : IAS < 210 kt. Use climbing configuration and power setting corresponding to low noise procedure according to current operational conditions.
